The Organizations

We help prepare the field. The playwrights do the rest.

Seven Devils Playwrights Conference

Each June, since 2001, theater artists from around the country have gathered in the rural, mountain community of McCall, Idaho for the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference.

Now entering its 20th year, the Conference has developed and presented nearly 200 new American plays and has offered free playwriting workshops led by some of the country’s finest playwrights including Elaine Romero, Samuel D. Hunter, Adam Rapp, Robert Schenkkan, Lee Blessing, Richard Dresser, Eugene Lee, Sherry Kramer, Jeni Mahoney, Caridad Svich, John Olive, Eric Coble and Kara Lee Corthron.

All Conference events are open to the public at all times and offered free of charge including fully-staged readings, seated readings, workshops and even rehearsals.

Tofte Lake Center

Now entering into our second decade, TLC provides residencies for artists who crave dedicated time to work on their projects, for creatives who seek individual growth through guided workshops or retreats, for organizations that want to make time to re/focus on their goals or mission, for leaders to gather to exchange ideas with colleagues in their field.

TLC believes that every individual is creative at his/her core, and offers programming that enables the creative impulse to come to the fore. Through its artist-in-residence weeks, curated group projects, and guided retreats and workshops, TLC strives to create an environment where self and group expression can be extensively and intensively explored.

National Winter Playwrights Retreat

A playwright based retreat, the National Winter Playwrights Retreat prioritizes the playwright, not the work being produced. The retreat provides respite and renewal. However, the artist’s rejuvenation inevitably finds its way into her art. In enabling the playwright with freedom from expectations, we enable the art.

That is the first part of our vision.

The second part is heralding the economic importance of creativity in our society.  HBMG Foundation seeks to infuse the creativity of storytellers with the innovation of business. Creativity is the “Research and Development” of our economy. Creativity and innovation lead to new ideas, products, and companies that will shape the future of our country. Storytellers are vital to communicating messages of new startups and companies.

Finally, In hearing the stories of people who are different from us, we inevitably hear our own. And as the world grows bigger, so it also seems smaller.

National New Play Network

NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN) is an alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays. Founded in 1998, NNPN continues to revolutionize the new play landscape through the strength of its member theaters, collaborate efforts, and its nationally recognized programs and services for artists and organizations.

NNPN boasts a diverse roster of Member Theaters through its two-tiered membership structure: Core Members, the governing network of theaters with annual budgets over $150,000 and missions that affirm a dedication to new works; and Associate Members, companies that produce or develop at least one new work per year and demonstrate a commitment to NNPN’s values.

About The People

With backgrounds in acting, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, executive leadership, artistic leadership and downright nice people, the group represents a wide swath of the American Theatre landscape.

The partners as a whole are committed to new voices in American Theatre. We aim to support playwrights regardless of age or sexual orientation, with particular interest in women and writers of color. We seek the unknown.  We seek you.
